What is Conscious Leadership and Why We Need It

I’ve been thinking about Conscious Leadership for a long time.

The idea of this book came to me several years ago. Coming from the business world, I’ve seen firsthand leaders getting trapped in their minds, leading to mistakes, bad decisions, and re-creating the same old. The mind is powerful, yet it’s not as rational as people believe. Leaders succumb to their assumptions, beliefs, and understanding of reality without questioning whether they got it right. Often, with that comes harm. It can affect the leader, the organization, and everything in sight.

So I’ve seen the need for Conscious Leadership for a long time.

Business challenges continue to get bigger and harder to solve. There’s so much complexity that leaders face every day. In this complex, fast-moving environment, it’s easier to repeat actions of the past than create new ideas and actions for the future. We must recognize that the leadership that has gotten us to where we are today no longer suffices. The context is vastly different. The world has changed.

We need new leadership to meet the challenges and opportunities of this century. We need to change how we think.

To do that, we must understand how our thoughts and feelings result in actions. We need to spot how our biases and assumptions shape our reality. We must gain clarity about how our consciousness determines the world we perceive and act upon.

This is where Conscious Leadership comes in.

Conscious Leadership helps you to get out of your head and use all parts of yourself. When you lead this way, you perceive more of what’s happening around you. So you improve how you think and make decisions. You understand yourself much better, including others. You collaborate and listen more by being present in experiences. You become more effective at leading your teams, embracing challenges, and enabling change. When you lead consciously, you understand your profound influence on outcomes. So you lead with intent to drive better and more meaningful results.
